TM6. PITKIN-TYPE FLASK, light green,
32 broken ribs swirled to the left, pontil scar, 5 3/16"H
x 3 1/2"W at widest point, sheared and tooled mouth, a mint
bottle with a shallow manufacturer's pontil flake. Attributed
to the Mantua Glass Works, Mantua, OH, 1822-1829, rare size and
rib count, ex. Douglas collection.
This wonderful half-pint flask was the smallest Pitkin-Type flask
included in the Douglas Collection and the piece has not been
offered since the sale of the collection in 1989. The flask excels
in all regards, exhibiting clear, brilliant color and distinguished
by its long crooked neck. As shown, the pattern is strongest
in the shoulders and weaker towards the base as is typical for
flasks of this type. Diminutive in size yet bold in its visual
appeal, this stunning American flask is guaranteed to please!
