ITEM SM1. "DR. A. ROGERS
/ LIVERWORT TAR & / CANCHALAGUA - A.L. SCOVILLE & CO
- NEW YORK," bright medium green, rectangular tubular pontil
scar, 7 9/16"H, applied tapered collar, about mint (small
scrape on top edge of the lip and some minor exterior scuffing).
American, C. 1850, extremely rare.
The Rogers has always been one of my favorite medicine bottles,
probably because it was one of the first good bottles I owned.
I wondered for years if the bottle was found in colors until
I saw this incredible example at a home no more than 10 miles
from our own. I have chased after the piece for more than a decade
and I am now proud to offer it to the bottle collecting public.
Found in a dump in the Adirondacks in the 1970s, this bottle
has never previously been offered and I am sure that the lucky
new owner will hang onto it tight, just like the previous owner.
Since I first saw this piece I have heard of other colored Dr.
Rogers bottles but I have still not seen this particular mold
in color. If you are a serious collector of pontiled medicine
bottles you will not want to miss this spectacular piece!
