JSF9. "GEO. UPP JR. / YORK,
PA. - MINERAL / WATER", midnight blue, cylindrical, iron
pontil scar, 7 5/8"H x 2 5/8"D, applied blob-style
collar, about mint (a few clouds of light interior haze and some
light exterior wear). American, 1855-1865, rare.
As with the "large lettering" Upp soda that we have
posted, this hard-to-find York, PA bottle is also an attic quality
piece that has never been cleaned or altered. The bottle is blown
in an unusual shade of "midnight blue" that is just
different enough from straight "cobalt blue" for one
to take notice. The embossed lettering is wonderfully bold and
though the bottle is not technically "perfect," it
is awfully close and certainly one of the finest known examples
of this rare York, PA iron pontiled soda.
