JSF10. "TAYLOR / NEVER / SURRENDERS
- UNION GLASS WORKS / PHILADA", bright sapphire blue, cylindrical,
iron pontil scar, 7 1/2"H x 2 5/8"D, applied sloping
collar, ¼" x 3/16" lip edge flake and some light
exterior wear. Union Glass Works, Philadelphia, PA, 1855-1865,
rare and historically significant.
Rare and important, the Taylor Never Surrenders bottle is the
only soda with true historic significance and it is one of the
foundations of a top soda collection. Perhaps dug but NEVER cleaned,
this superb "attic quality" example retains a brilliant
exterior luster with pleasingly crude glass. The noted flake
is shown below - there is a small associated bruise on the inside
of the mouth that can also be seen, but only when held at particular
angle in the proper light. The bottle is otherwise just about
perfect and the piece remains a superior example of a bottle
collecting classic.
