ITEM SP94. "SWAIM'S / PANACEA
- GENUINE - PHILADELPHIA," aquamarine, rectangular with
concave beveled edges, pontil scar, 7 7/8"H, applied sloping
collar, a mint bottle with some light usage wear. American, C.
1830, rare.
The gentleman from whom we acquired this piece assured me that
this would be the "best Swaim's Genuine I'd ever laid eyes
upon" and he was absolutely correct. Heavily whittled and
filled with a tumult of tiny bubbles, this is the example that
others will be judged against. This is the earliest of Swaim's
bottles and unlike most, this superb example is presented in
uncleaned, attic-quality condition.
