ITEM JNH71. UMBRELLA INK, golden
olive amber, octagonal, jagged tubular pontil scar, 2 3/8"H,
sheared and fire polished mouth, mint. Blown at a Stoddard Glass
Works, Stoddard, NH, C. 1850.
After more than a decade of proud ownership we have decided that
now is the time to part with this delightful little ink bottle.
Purchased from famed bottle dealer Art Henderson of Boscawen,
NH in the early 90s, we have held onto this ink for the remarkable
pair of "birdswings" on the bottle's interior. These
drips of glass extend from the bottle's side to its base and
have suffered do damage. And, because of the bottle's relative
lightness of color the swings are readily apparent on display.
Of the many Stoddard umbrella inks we have bought and sold this
is far and away the best.
