ITEM JNH3. SNUFF JAR, yellow,
dip molded square, pontil scar, 5 ½"H and 2 7/8"
square, sheared and fire polished rim, mint. New England, almost
certainly blown at a Connecticut Glass House, 1790-1820, ex,
Richard Haygood, ex. Stew Putney.
Yes, YELLOW. We have bought and sold other Connecticut snuffs
in this size with good color but this is the only true YELLOW
(no olive, no amber) example we know of. The bottle eluded me
when we were slowly buying snuffs from the Richard Haygood Collection
but it resurfaced when Stew Putney reorganized his collection
several years ago. Anyone who thinks that New England bottles
are by their nature dark and murky has obviously not seen this
one. It is a GEM!!!!!!
