ITEM JNH15. BLOWN THREE MOLD
PITCHER, (McK# GII-25), clear flint or soda lime glass, body
formed from a quart-sized decanter mold, hand tooled pour spout,
applied solid glass handle with medial rib, pontil scar, 5 3/4"H,
tooled rim, mint. American, probably blown at a Midwestern Glass
House, 1820-1840, extremely rare, probably unique. Ex. George
McKearin Collection, ex. Wayne Ayers Collection, ex. Charles
G. Moore Collection.
Ostensibly purchased for "resale" a number of years
ago, neither Holly nor I have had the heart to actually put a
price tag on this piece until now. It is believed that this is
THE GII-25 pitcher noted in McKearin's charts, as no other example
has come to light. The pitcher has impeccable provenance, having
been included in numerous major collections. The pitcher's bubbly
texture, fancy handle treatment and overall form are all reflective
of the work done by Midwestern Glassblowers and the piece has
always been ascribed to that region.
