ITEM BM31. PATTERN MOLDED
FLASK, bright, light pink amethyst, 12 nip't diamonds, pontil
scar, 5 1/8"H, crudely sheared mouth, about mint (some lip
edge roughness). Blown at Stiegel's American Flint Glass Manufactory,
1769-1774, rare.
Although Stiegel flasks blown in the 12 diamond mold are not
rare, this example is a special one that exhibits not only the
best possible form (chunky!!!!) but also wonderfully crisp detailing
and spectacular color. More pink than purple (one collector knowingly
referred to the shade as "lilac") this is a piece worthy
of inclusion in the finest collections. Blown PRIOR to the Revolutionary
War, this remarkable flask is truly a joy to behold and a gorgeous
artifact of the Colonial period.
