ITEM BM23. "GRIFFITH, HYATT
& CO. / BALTIMORE, MD," deep apricot puce, globular
bottle with indented label panel and applied solid glass handle,
tubular pontil scar, 7 5/16"H, applied square collar, about
mint (some minor exterior wear and a pinhead-size spot of lip
edge roughness). American, probably blown at the Baltimore Glass
Works, Baltimore, MD, 1846-1860, scarce bottle in a rare color.
Crisply embossed and blown in a rare color, this superb handled
whiskey bottle is an exemplary specimen that excels in all regards.
The bottle has been in a closet collection since the late 60s
or early 70s and this is the first time it has been offered for
decades. As the pictures show, the back label panel was painted
during the Victorian era - it is now difficult to make out the
scene clearly but the paint remains an attractive attribute that
attests to the bottle's "freshly found" state.
