ITEM 8994. DIP MOLD SNUFF BOTTLE,
olive green, octagonal, pontil scar, 4 3/8"H, sheared and
fire polished mouth, mint. Blown at a New England Glass House,
1790-1820, very rare form.
First period (1790-1820) New England bottles of eight equal sides
are quite rare and have long been coveted by collectors. McKearin
documents several jars of this type in American Glass, including
an example that was almost certainly blown in the same dip mold
used to produce this beautiful example. In nearly two decades
of collecting utility type bottles we have encountered just over
a handful of these elusive jars and were proud to offer this
undamaged, fresh to the market example.
