ITEM 8938. DIP MOLD SNUFF BOTTLE,
clear olive green, rectangular with beveled edges, pontil scar,
4 ¼"H, sheared and fire polished mouth, mint. Blown
at a New England Glass House, 1790-1820.
Dip molded New England snuffs of this type are contemporaries
of the ubiquitous chestnut bottles, predating the two-piece mold
snuffs of the 1840s by several decades. This interesting example
features an unusual depression beneath the pontil scar and as
shown, it exhibits overall crudity in both form and glass texture.
