ITEM 8009. BLOWN THREE MOLD PITCHER,
(McK# GV-3), clear, scalloped base with drawn body, simulated
neck threading and applied solid glass handle with two crimps,
pontil scar, 5 ¼"H, tooled mouth with pour spout,
about mint (some base edge roughness and a minor bruise on the
side of the lower handle attachment. Both are manufacture related
issues.) American, 1820-1840, unique handle treatment. Ex. Louis
G. Meyers and Alfred B. Maclay Collections.
The handle treatment of this iconic blown three mold pitcher
is described by Helen McKearin in the Maclay catalog as "unique"
and in the 70 years since that sale, no other example has come
to light. The noted manufacture flaws are minor and the piece
displays as mint.
