ITEM 7761. HANDLED WHISKEY JUG,
deep puce amethyst, globular body with applied solid glass handle,
pontil scar, 8 ½"H, applied sloping collar, mint.
American, probably blown at a Baltimore, MD Glass House, C. 1850,
rare.
Although appearing quite dark in reflected light, strong backlighting
reveals that this fine oversized whiskey jug is a deep puce amethyst
in color. Our sense is that the jug is a Baltimore made piece
but one could also make the case for it to have been blown in
Southern New Jersey.
