18TH CENTURY AMERICAN DIP-MOLD SNUFF BOTTLE

ITEM 7644. DIP-MOLDED SNUFF BOTTLE, olive green, square, pontil scar, 4 3/16"H, sheared and fire polished mouth, a mint bottle exhibiting the expected usage wear. American, late 18th century, scarce form.

Delightfully crude and "boxy" in form, this early snuff bottle is a particularly appealing example of its type. Similarly shaped snuff bottles were produced in England during the period but all signs point towards an American attribution in this instance.
