ITEM 7559. "BOURBON / WHISKEY
/ BITTERS," smoky grape puce, barrel-shaped, smooth base,
9 3/8"H, applied square collar, lightly cleaned to about
perfect condition. American, 1865-1875, rare color.
Try as I might, I simply cannot properly capture the beauty of
this exciting barrel bitters bottle. A true "chameleon,"
the bottle changes colors in different lighting situations but
with that said, it is awfully pretty in every instance. At its
best, the bottle shows as a light amethyst - other lighting situations
show some pink and perhaps a bit of smoky grey. Holly noted that
the color looks like "diluted grape juice" and that's
probably as accurate as one could be. No matter the verbiage
this is a light, bright, pretty and VERY different color for
a barrel bitters bottle.
