ITEM 7508. PATTERN MOLDED SALT
CELLAR, checkered diamond pattern, vibrant cobalt blue, ogee-shaped
bowl with drawn stem and applied foot, pontil scar, 2 7/8"H,
sheared, tooled and fire polished rim, a mint salt with a weakened
impression. Blown at John Amelung's New Bremen Glassmanufactory,
New Bremen, MD., 1785-1795, rare.
Although not strongly impressed, this checkered diamond salt
is one of very few objects that can be attributed with confidence
to Amelung. The salt's color and form are outstanding and there
is no damage. Of interest is that a checkered diamond salt sold
in excess of $10K at a recent Green Valley auction.
