ITEM 7363. PITKIN-TYPE FLASK,
golden amber, 36 ribs ribbed and swirled to the left, pontil
scar, 6 1/4"H, sheared and fire polished mouth, mint. Blown
at a Midwestern Glass House, 1810 to 1830.
Coin-shaped "popcorn" flasks of this type are typically
attributed to Zanesville, Ohio and I have found no reason to
challenge that assessment. In fact, the remarkable continuity
of form and excellence in execution indicates that these so-called
"popcorn" flasks were not simply blown at a single
Glass House but quite likely created by the same glassblower/apprentice
team.
