ITEM 7298. DIP MOLD SNUFF BOTTLE,
deep amber, rectangular, 4 7/16"H, sheared and fire polished
mouth, about mint (some exterior wear). American, 1830-1850.
Although generically catalogued as simply "American,"
it is my sense that this is a Pittsburgh made bottle and not
one blown in New England. I make this assessment by considering
the color and nature of the glass (consistent with Pittsburgh
made objects) and also by the manner of construction, most notably
the unusually "slotted" dip mold in which the bottle
was blown. It is the combination of these traits that lead me
to conclude of an origin outside of New England and likely Pittsburgh.
