EMERALD GREEN GV-5 RAILROAD FLASK

ITEM 6998. "SUCCESS TO THE RAILROAD" / (MOTIF OF HORSE AND CART) - "SUCCESS TO THE RAILROAD" / (MOTIF OF HORSE AND CART), (McK# GV-5), light, bright mossy emerald green, pontil scar, pint, sheared and fire polished mouth, a mint flask with a somewhat weakened impression in the upper third as is common to this mold. Blown at the Mount Vernon or Saratoga Mountain Glass Works, 1830-1850.

This strikingly beautiful New York State railroad flask is an attic quality example with no damage and no wear at the high points. As shown, the glass is teeming with bubbles and unlike its thicker, heavier brethren blown in Coventry, the paper-thin glass passes light with ease. This is to my eye an even better color than the GV-5 sold in the last Glass Works Auction for $3000 plus. If you are looking for an extra special railroad flask, this is the bottle for you!
