LATE 18TH/EARLY 19TH CENTURY TAVERN GLASS OR "THUMPER"

ITEM 6841. BLOWN GLASS DRINKING VESSEL OR "THUMPER," clear flint glass with a grey cast, everted cone with drawn, solid glass base, pontil scar, 3 15/16"H, sheared mouth, mint. American, late 18th or early 19th century.

Colloquially referred to as "thumpers," drinking vessels of this type were popular in taverns during the late 18th and early 19th century. It is this example's form, metal and generous overall wear that lead me to believe that it is earlier than most.
