ITEM 6791. BLOWN GLASS PITCHER,
deep aquamarine, bulbous body with short neck, tooled pour spout,
applied crimped foot, applied threading and applied solid glass
handle, tubular pontil scar, 5"H, a mint pitcher exhibiting
the expected usage wear and minor threading losses. Blown at
a South Jersey Glass House, C. 1840.
This soulful pitcher is quite obviously the work of a master
gaffer. Perfectly formed and requiring four separate gathers
of glass, each step in the process was made with precision and
confidence. Noticeably "bottom heavy" by design, this
is a piece of blown glass that feels particularly good in the
hand.
