HUGE CLARKE'S SHERRY WINE BITTERS - BEST EXAMPLE!

ITEM 6718. "ONLY 75 CTS / CLARKES / VEGETABLE / SHERRY / WINE / BITTERS / SHARON, MASS.," (Ring #C159), brilliant aquamarine, rectangular with beveled edges, huge tubular pontil scar, 11 3/8"H, oversized applied sloping collar, an undamaged bottle with some neck crazing and an inconsequential pontil bruise. American, C. 1850, scarce. It is not a stretch to say that the gaffer used enough glass in the production of this bottle to make another, as it weighs several pounds and is as thick and chunky as any bottle we have encountered. The heavy whittling, short neck and wildly oversized top make this a singular example that is to my eye one of the most attractive aqua pontiled bottles we have offered in years. I love it! SOLD!
