ITEM 6688. MASTER INK BOTTLE,
purple, 12 sided, early smooth base, 4 ½"H, flared
mouth, mint. New England, probably blown at the Boston and Sandwich
Glass Works, Sandwich, MA, C. 1870, extremely rare.
Not puce, not amethyst but truly PURPLE, this extraordinary little
bottle is truly a joy to behold. I know of less than a handful
of these bottles, which appear to me to have been blown in the
same mold used for production of the Sandwich made dentrifice
jars. The only other example that has come to light in recent
years was the Mebane example which was purchased at the Gardner
Sale in 1975.
