ITEM 6616. STUBBY BEER BOTTLE,
deep, rich forest green, three-piece mold cylinder, sand chip
pontil scar, 6 5/8"H, applied sloping collar with ring,
about mint (minor flaking on the lip and base edges). Blown at
a New England Glass House, C. 1840, extremely rare color.
This is, without a shadow of a doubt, the BEST stubby beer we
have encountered. The color of the metal alone makes this piece
special but it is the combination of the color and the outrageously
bubbly glass texture that puts it way, way, way over the top.
If I had to guess I'd ascribe a Willington, CT origin but it
is also possible that this bottle could have been blown at a
Stoddard, NH Glass House. It is, in either case, a remarkable
piece of early New England Glass.
