AMELUNG UTILITY JAR - EX. STOHLMAN COLLECTION

ITEM 6580. UTILITY JAR, bubbly olive green, dip molded cylinder, pontil scar, 6 ½"H, sheared and fire polished mouth, a mint jar exhibiting light usage wear. American, possibly blown at the John Amelung's New Bremen Glassmanufactory, Frederick, MD, 1785-1795, rare. Ex. Stohlman Collection.

18th century in look and feel, this intriguing jar was at one time included in the pioneer blown glass collection of Dr. Martin and Elizabeth Stohlman. Beginning in the 1930s, the Stohlmans spent many hours digging for fragments on the site of the New Bremen Glassmanufactory, eventually matching these fragments with whole examples located in the immediate vicinity of the factory site. Their findings were presented in the Magazine Antiques and selections from the collection were displayed at the Corning Museum of Glass.
