ITEM 6467. FREEBLOWN BELLOWS
BOTTLE, clear with white and cranberry loopings, elongated flask
form with applied rigaree, feet, neck rings and body decoration,
pontil scar, 11 3/8"H, applied double collar, mint. American
or English, C. 1860.
Even the casual observer would immediately recognize that this
object is a glassmaking tour de force. Profusely decorated with
tooled and applied bands of glass, it was no easy trick to create
such a complex object. The glassblower's skill is further evidenced
by the evenly spaced multicolored loopings which display a degree
of attentiveness not often found in the period. We have had several
bellows bottles in the past but none as impressive as this beautiful
example.
