FREEBLOWN CLOCHE OR FOOD DOME - WESTERN NEW YORK STATE

ITEM 6460. FREEBLOWN CLOCHE OR DOME, deep aquamarine, cylindrical with drawn finial, pontil scar, 7 ½"H x 7 1/8"D, folded rim, a mint object exhibiting the expected usage wear. American, probably blown at a Western new York State Glass House, C. 1850, rare.

This rarely encountered object is referred to many as a "cloche" and it was almost certainly used to cover/protect food on the table. Unlike most of those we have encountered previously (which appear to be French imports) this cloche is undoubtedly American and almost certainly Western New York State in origin.
