ITEM 6426. CHESTNUT BOTTLE, light
olive yellow, pontil scar, 6 1/2"H, crudely applied mouth,
a mint bottle with several bands of light interior haze. Blown
at a New England Glass Works, 1790-1820.
This fine, early bottle is fresh from an Alfred, Maine home and
it is a superlative example of a New England made chestnut bottle.
The piece is blown from a transparent batch of mostly yellow
metal with bubbles and impurities throughout. More than three
inches in depth, the bottle is thicker and gutsier than most
and it offers a pleasing profile. There is no damage, just a
few bands of haze from the original contents. The bottle's light
color, crude texture and better than usual form make it one that
you would want to own.
