SPECTACULAR MOSS GREEN NEW ENGLAND CHESTNUT FLASK

ITEM 6379. CHESTNUT BOTTLE, bright moss green, pontil scar, 5 1/2"H, crudely applied oversized mouth, mint. Blown at a New England Glass Works, 1790-1820.

The seasoned chestnut buyer does not need to be told that "this is not just another chestnut," as the pictures alone will send the serious collector of these bottles into Nirvana. Perhaps even "greener" than indicated by my photos, this little gem is exquisitely formed and filled with a myriad of tiny bubbles. A delightful string of glass slinks across the face of the bottle, adding additional appeal to a piece already overflowing with character. We have bought and sold bunches of chestnuts over the years and I can say with confidence that this is among the best of them.
