ITEM 6368. BLOWN THREE MOLD HAT,
(McK# GI-6), deep cobalt blue, pontil scar, 2 ½"H,
inwardly rolled mouth, an attic quality hat with a horizontal
5/8" fissure above the base edge that is a manufacturer's
flaw. American, probably blown at a New England Glass Hose, 1820-1840,
extremely rare.
This spectacular blown three mold hat is one of only a few known
to have been blown in the GI-6 mold. The color, construction
and metal are unparalleled - there is, as noted, a horizontal
cooling flaw just above the base edge but it is not easily noticeable
and certainly forgivable when considering the object's rarity.
