VERY RARE 18TH CENTURY ALPINE REGION PATTERN MOLDED GERMAN HALF-POST FLASK - COBALT BLUE!

 

ITEM 6318. PATTERN MOLDED FLASK, 24 vertical ribs, deep cobalt blue, pontil scar, 5 ¾"H, sheared mouth with applied threaded pewter closure, mint. Blown in the European Alpine Region, C. 1720, very rare. Blown in the German half-post method in the first half of the 18th century, this pattern molded spirits flask (or "nabelflasche as it was known regionally) is a very rare survivor of the period. Holding just a half-pint of spirits, the flask is blown from a lightweight metal of surprising quality. The boldly embossed ribbing and dramatically intense blue color make this a piece with an imposing visual presence. SOLD!
