GORGEOUS STODDARD, NH DEMIJOHN - GREAT COLOR!

ITEM 6313. DIP MOLDED DEMIJOHN BOTTLE, bright orange amber with strong red tones, cylindrical, sand chip pontil scar, 14 1/2"H, applied sloping collar, a mint bottle exhibiting some expected usage wear. New England, probably blown at a Stoddard Glass House, C. 1850.

This startlingly beautiful Stoddard, New Hampshire demijohn was collected by a Massachusetts couple in the 1950s and stowed away in newsprint since in the early 1960s. The collection has just recently come to light (last Friday, in fact!) and our current postings include more than a dozen bottles and flasks carefully selected from a collection of more than fifty objects.

Although there are more valuable bottles in the collection this Stoddard made demijohn is unquestionably as pretty a piece of glass in the group. The bottle displays strong red tones and pleasing overall crudity that make it a perfect candidate for window placement.
