ITEM 6045. "GRIFFITH, HYATT
& CO. / BALTIMORE, MD," shaded yellow apricot, globular
bottle with indented label panel and applied solid glass handle,
tubular pontil scar, 7 5/16"H, applied square collar, an
attic quality bottle with a manufacturer's pontil crack. American,
probably blown at the Baltimore Glass Works, Baltimore, MD, 1846-1860,
scarce bottle in a rare color.
Yes, it is cracked. BUT, this gorgeous bottle is still as good
a Griffith and Hyatt as I can recall seeing. The bottle is not
amber but rather a funky yellow apricot as you might see in some
of the very expensive Baltimore flasks. In addition, the glass
is crude and whittled with a few striations of color further
enhancing the bottle's appearance. The damage undoubtedly occurred
during manufacture and unless you display your bottles "bottoms
up" you will quickly forget that it has a flaw. If you have
a string of Griffith and Hyatt bottles or a collection of whiskeys
this is one that you don't want to miss.
