DEEP EMERALD GREEN FROM THE LABORATORY OF G W MERCHANT CHEMIST

ITEM 5735. "FROM THE / LABORATORY - OF / G.W. MERCHANT / CHEMIST - LOCKPORT, N.Y.," deep emerald green, rectangular with concave beveled edges, early smooth base, 5 ½"H, applied sloping collar, about mint (paper-thin 1/8" base flake located on the mold seam.) Blown at the Lockport Glass Works, Lockport, NY, C. 1850-1860. Although it is not pontiled this gorgeous Merchant bottle is certainly of the period and as shown, it exudes the crudity and character one would expect of a pre-War bottle. The noted base edge flake is to my mind a non-issue and noted solely for accuracy, as it is more easily felt than seen and it does not in any manner affect display, as this remains a top example that is priced to SELL!!! SOLD!
