COVENTRY, CT GVIII-16 SUNBURST HALF-PINT - CLEAR OLIVE YELLOW

ITEM 5658. SUNBURST FLASK, (McK# GVIII-16), clear olive yellow, pontil scar, half-pint, sheared and fire polished mouth, a mint bottle exhibiting a touch of exterior wear. Coventry Glass Works, Coventry, CT, 1820-1840.

More yellow than olive, this VERY crisply embossed half-pint sunburst flask was blown during the first period of American flask production and almost certainly dates to the late 1820s. Echoing a popular architectural design of the day, the sunburst motif was popular with the earliest American moldmakers and used with particular aesthetic effect in the cutting of the GVIII-16 mold.
