ITEM 5616. MAMMOTH CASE GIN BOTTLE,
clear olive green, tapered square case gin form, tubular pontil
scar, 18 ¼"H, crudely applied mouth, a mint bottle
exhibiting the expected usage wear and retaining some content
residue. Probably blown at a Dutch Glass House, 1760-1800, rare
size.
The black glass collection we have been fortunate to acquire
includes not just one but two mammoth case gin bottles. Don't
let this fact fool you, these are very rare bottles, especially
when found without damage. This big old beauty is probably the
prettier of the pair (sadly it is also the smaller) and it has
withstood the test of time with stout resoluteness, much like
the man brave enough to conquer the original contents.
