RARE SQUAT SQUARE SNUFF JAR WITH ELONGATED NECK - MINT

ITEM 5608. SNUFF JAR, medium to deep olive amber, square, faint sand chip pontil scar, 4 5/8"H x 2 1/8"D, crudely applied mouth, mint. Probably American, late 18th or early 19th century, rare form. Over the years we have seen two, maybe three snuffs of this type and each has had 18th century characteristics. It is the bottle's squat form, long neck and crudely applied mouth that make it a snuff to remember and in referencing Heckler Auction #66 we found a similar (though arguably lesser) example that sold for $1400 plus the 12% percent premium. Recently purchased as part of a carefully assembled black glass collection, ours is priced to SELL at $1150. SOLD!
