ATTIC MINT HARTFORD, CT COOLEY'S ANTI-DYSPEPTIC OR JAUNDICE BITTERS

ITEM 5515. "COOLEY'S / ANTI- / DYSPEPTIC / OR / JAUNDICE / BITTERS," brilliant aquamarine, oval with fancy indented embossing panel, tubular pontil scar, 6 9/16"H, applied sloping collar, a mint, attic quality bottle with the usual weakened embossed lettering. American, C. 1830, very rare.

Over the years we have had the good fortune to buy and sell quite a few rare bitters bottles but this is the first time we have ever had the opportunity to offer one of my all-time favorites, "Cooley's Anti-Dyspeptic or Jaundice Bitters." As shown in the attached photographs, this Hartford, Connecticut rarity is plastered with whittle and swimming with bubbles. As is typical of the very few examples I have seen, the embossing is somewhat weak (especially towards the base) but the piece remains the BEST specimen I know of, as it is attic perfect (no wear, even on the base!) and beautifully crude. If you are a lover of "character bottles" you will not be able to take your eyes off this beauty!!!!
