ITEM 5349. "H.F. & B. / N.Y."
WHISKEY BOTTLE, strawberry puce with amethyst highlights, six-sided,
early smooth base, 11"H, applied sloping collar with ring,
dug and lightly cleaned to near perfect condition. American,
C. 1870, extremely rare and desirable.
Of the very few (less than a handful) examples of this bottle
we have seen over the years, this is unquestionably the finest
in condition, character and color. As shown, the bottle is "hammered"
with whittle and blown in a rich shade of puce bottle glass that
is lighter and brighter than the photo indicates. In fact, the
bottle passes light with relative ease, as color can be seen
from top to bottom in a window, even on a grey Vermont day. I
have waited for years to acquire one of these handsome whiskey
bottles and I am very pleased to offer it for sale.
