ITEM 5046. DEMI-JAR, deep olive
green with profuse "black" slaggy striations, two-piece
mold cylinder, 13 ¾"H x 7 ½"D, HUGE (nearly
3"D) red iron pontil scar, mint. American, C. 1850, extremely
rare.
Where to begin? Manipulated from a 3 or 4 gallon demijohn mold,
this incredible jar is unlike any piece of period glass we have
seen. Awash in slaggy striations, the metal appears as if it
was dredged from the very bottom of the pot. With that said,
it is the HUGE red ion pontil that is this bottle's most salient
feature. If you are in the market for something "different"
to add to your collection, this is the piece for you!
