VERTICALLY RIBBED PITTSBURGH GLOBULAR BOTTLE - UNUSUAL MOUTH

ITEM 3621. PATTERN MOLDED GLOBULAR BOTTLE, pale apple green, 18 vertical ribs, pontil scar, 8 1/4"H, applied sloping collar with ring, a mint bottle exhibiting the expected light usage wear. Midwestern, probably blown at a Pittsburgh District Glass House, Pittsburgh, PA, 1820-1840, unusual mouth treatment.

Discussions with longtime Pittsburgh Glass collectors lead us to believe that this is a particularly early globular bottle most likely dating to the first quarter of the Nineteenth Century. This assessment is based upon both the unusual lip treatment and the color/texture of the glass. The bottle is in any event just different enough for even the novice collector to understand that he/she is looking at something "special."
