ITEM 3474. UMBRELLA INK, red amber, octagonal
with embossed dots on two panels, pontil scar, 2 5/8"H x
2 1/2"D, sheared and tooled mouth, a mint bottle with a
pinhead-sized spot of lip roughness. American, C. 1850, extremely
rare mold.
This brightly colored umbrella ink is the only example we have
encountered with the embossed "dots" on two of the
two of the eight panels. Similar "dots" can be found
on documented Stoddard flasks and thus it is our best guess that
the piece is in fact Stoddard in origin.
