ITEM 3179. FREEBLOWN OR DIP MOLDED WHISKEY
BOTTLE, olive green, cylindrical, tubular pontil scar, 11 3/8"H
x 3 1/8"D, applied sloping collar with ring, mint. American,
C. 1850, rare.
This outstanding American whiskey bottle is unusual in several
regards. The bottle is freeblown (or dip molded) rather than
fashioned in the traditional three-piece mold. And in addition,
the tubular pontil is housed within a deep kick-up as one would
expect to see on a French hock wine. However, the distinctive
collar and glass texture speak to an American origin and we are
as near certain as we can be that the piece is, in fact, of domestic
manufacture. We have never seen another whiskey bottle of this
type.
