ITEM 2859. CATHEDRAL PICKLE JAR,
deep greenish aquamarine, square with fancy cathedral arches,
square iron pontil scar, 11 7/8"H x 3 1/2"W, applied
collar, a mint bottle with a few scattered scuff marks. American,
1855-1865.
This brightly colored pickle jar is literally bursting at the
seams (it is WAY overblown and several of the panels are wildly
bowed) and as shown, the piece is plastered with whittle marks.
The neatly molded base houses a square iron pontil scar and the
crudely applied mouth sits just below the top of the neck. The
glass is either a deep greenish aquamarine or light green in
color (take your pick) and the bottle is blown in a fancier than
usual mold with beautiful gothic motifs in the shoulders.
