ITEM 2347. BLOWN THREE MOLD HAT WHIMSEY,
(McK# GII-21), clear flint glass, pontil scar, 21/4"H x
2 1/8"D, folded rim, about mint (inconsequential 1/16"
bruise on the inner edge of the folded rim). Possibly blown at
the Boston and Sandwich Glass Works, Sandwich, MA, 1820-1840,
This well formed and VERY boldly embossed GII-21 hat whimsy is
a spectacular specimen of the blown-three-bold table wares produced
by American craftsmen in the first half of the Nineteenth Century.
And, though they are probably not "rare," articles
blown in this particular mold (I LOVE the base!) are certainly
scarce and DEFINITELY more attractive than items blown using
the more often seen molds in McKearin's Group Number Two.
