ITEM 2105. WHALE OIL LAMP, colorless,
square, two tiered pressed glass base with a wide ringed knopf
and a blown light bulb form font, pontil scar, 8"H, tooled
mouth, about mint (numerous flat base edge flakes and typical
mold roughness). American, 1825-1840.
This well-crafted fluid lamp is pleasingly formed and beautifully
constructed. The pressed glass base does exhibit some roughness
and a milky stream of bubbles but these conditions are common
to lamps of this type and the piece remains a fine example of
early Nineteenth century lighting.
