ITEM 11013. "LEDIARD'S -
CELEBRATED - STOMACH / BITTERS" WITH PARTIAL "DR. SWAN'S
BITTERS" LABEL, deep green, square with slightly beveled
edges, large iron pontil scar, 10 1/8"H, applied double
collar, mint. American, C. 1855, very scarce.
Recently discovered in a Boston basement, this bottle came to
us covered in dirt, grime and pigeon droppings. It has since
been carefully cleaned in soap and water to reveal the full brilliance
and beauty of what may well be the finest known example of this
highly desirable bottle. The label is not "original"
per se but it was an early and important addition to this bottle.
It is my understanding that most of these bottles have been found
on the West Coast, ostensibly shipped there by an Eastern merchant.
