ITEM 10208. SUNBURST - SUNBURST,
(McK# GVIII-16), bright, clear olive green, pontil scar, half-pint,
sheared and tooled mouth, an undamaged example with just a whisper
of wear on the tips of the sunburst rays. Blown at the Coventry
Glass Works, Coventry, CT, 1815-1830.
Reflecting a popular architectural
motif of the period, the sunburst design was employed in the
design of numerous figured flasks, including this Coventry, CT
made GVIII-16. As shown, this pleasingly transparent example
features well defined corrugated ribs and a smattering of tiny
bubbles in the glass that lend character. It is an excellent
example of a hard to find Connecticut made flask.
