BC27. "DR LANGLEY'S / ROOT &
HERB / BITTERS / 99 UNION STREET / BOSTON", (Ring# L21),
bright yellow green with an olive tone, cylindrical, smooth base,
8 5/8"H x 3"D, applied square collar, a shallow ¾"
base edge sliver chip has been filled with epoxy. American, 1865-1875,
extremely rare and possibly unique in this color.
I know of only one other Langley's in this color and that is
the half-size L22 that sold in an April 1995 Glass Works sale
for $2640. This bottle appears to have been blown using the same
batch of glass and it is a staggeringly beautiful piece that
is loaded with bubbles and impurities. As noted, a shallow sliver
chip at the base edge has been "patched" - this is
the bottle's only flaw and it is not noticeable upon display.
The piece is otherwise perfect and the bottle remains a rare,
important and BEAUTIFUL bitters!
